Oleka's Obligations

ꕀ Help Us Create a Wave of Change ꕀ

Hi there!

My name is Mikayla, and I am the founder and owner of Oleka Swim. I want to share my personal story and my mission to help millions of women out there that are as confused as I am.

Endometriosis has deeply impacted my life, and I'm committed to making a difference. That's why I decided that a portion of the proceeds from each bikini will be donated to women's endometriosis health research.

I was completely shocked when I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis. Despite having no major symptoms, an ultrasound revealed a 10cm cyst on my left ovary and significant damage to my organs caused by endometriosis tissue. This was all discovered in my laparoscopic surgery in June of 2024.

They have an IV in their hand, and medical equipment is visible in the background. The person appears to be in a positive mood, preparing for a medical procedure. The setting is a hospital room, with medical tubes and devices attached, indicating they are receiving care.

My journey to understanding endometriosis was incredibly frustrating. There's a shocking lack of information and funding for a disease that affects millions of women worldwide. I desperately wanted to know if diet or lifestyle factors played a role, but there were few answers.

As a swimwear company, I became increasingly aware of the potential impact of polyester on women's health. Research suggests that exposure to polyester might affect hormone levels, particularly progesterone. This intrigued me, as an imbalance of hormones, specifically low progesterone levels and high estrogen levels, is a primary factor in endometriosis. While more research is needed, the connection between polyester and hormonal changes cannot be ignored.

That's why I made a conscious decision to create 100% polyester-free swimwear. I believe it's a small step towards helping women maintain hormonal balance and potentially reduce their risk of developing endometriosis, by taking the decision to switch all clothes from polyester.

Did you know?

Endometriosis affects an estimated 10% of women of reproductive age, making it a common condition. Symptoms vary widely but can include painful periods, chronic pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fatigue, and infertility. Diagnosis can be challenging, often taking years. Endometriosis is not just a pelvic condition; it can impact other parts of the body. While there's no cure, research is ongoing to find effective treatments.

By supporting endometriosis research, we can work towards a future where women don't have to suffer silently. Your donation will help fund vital research, raise awareness, and provide support to those affected by this debilitating disease. Let's make a difference together and ride the wave to cure endometriosis!
